Over 350 farmers and agripreneurs in Meru County have benefited from artificial intelligence training in technology and financial literacy in a bid to increase production of their farm produce.
The training was aimed at modernizing traditional farming and mainly targeted small scale farmers who are the majority in the region.
The event was hosted courtesy of the Safire Connect Forum, a key event under the M-PESA @ 18 celebrations aimed at boosting agribusiness through technology and financial literacy.
Hosted by Safaricom as part of the M-PESA Sokoni, Mount Kenya edition, the forum provided hands-on training in artificial intelligence, mobile finance, and digital tools to help modernize traditional farming.

The initiative is geared towards equipping smallholder farmers with the resources to build profitable, tech-savvy agricultural enterprises.
“Through platforms like Safire Connect and DigiFarm, we’re enabling farmers to reimagine what is possible. Today’s event has given farmers practical tools, knowledge, and networks to grow their agribusinesses in a data-driven economy,” said Patrick Mburu, the Regional Business Lead at Safaricom.
The event was held in Meru town in partnership with DTB, Centonomy, TransUnion, E-Mobilis, and Strathmore Business School.
Farmers were taken through sessions, which includes, smart farming practices, financial wellness, AI-powered decision-making, and mobile-based marketing.

Farmers also learned how to access credit, manage crops digitally, and sell produce using mobile and social platforms.
At the core of the forum was DigiFarm, Safaricom’s agri-tech platform offering access to certified inputs, financial services, e-learning content, and ready markets.
Other showcased solutions included Ziidi MMF, Fuliza ya Biashara, Pochi la Biashara, Taasi Till and Taasi Pochi tools designed to enhance business efficiency and promote financial inclusion.
