West Pokot farmers benefit from solar pumps to boost agriculture

West Pokot farmers have benefited from pumps from The Kerio Valley Development Authority and Sigor MP Peter Lochakapong, they have played a significant role in ensuring that lighting and irrigation challenges are solved at the cheapest possible cost.

Speaking to local farmers and residents during the launch of the pumps Lochakapong stated that water and lightning are vital resources and play an important role in agricultural production which covers areas like livestock production and irrigation.

He said that the solar propelled water pumps would be a game changer for over 70 families in the Dung Dung area and its environs, this would certainly boost farming and hence reduce poverty levels in the area.

He asserted that the solar water pump can be comfortably used to pump water from underneath sources, wells, lakes, rivers or reservoirs thereby providing water for irrigation which would save time and energy.

Water pumps are used to provide high irrigation efficiency by supplying sufficient amount of water to every area with very little maintenance cost.

According to the legislator, the targeted rivers where the pumps will be installed include  Marich, Weiwei, Lomut and Kerio rivers.
