Women in the Western Kenya region have been encouraged to join and invest in Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies (Saccos) in order to succeed in economic empowerment.
Speaking during the launch of Mulembe Women Congress Malava chapter held at friends’ church, Joseph Busiega, the chief of staff in the office of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, said the cooperative movement is the driving force behind the country’s growth.
Busiega said that the government is heavily investing in the growth of small and micro-enterprises to improve living standards through Saccos.
“The government is committed to supporting organized groups such as Mulembe Women Congress to uplift and make them self-reliant and support their families independently, without relying solely on their husbands,” he said.
Immaculate Khamsa Shamala praised Musalia Mudavadi’s efforts in promoting the growth and stability of the Mulembe Women Congress, whose goal is to transform the lives of the Mulembe people as a whole.
Pamela Musambai, who is one of the congress leaders, explained that their main objective is to educate and train women to become self-sufficient.
“Our aim is to assist old women, young mothers, and those with disabilities in acquiring the necessary skills to provide for their families and educate their children. Empowering women uplifts the entire society, and it is crucial to reach out to as many women as possible,” she said.
