Yetu Sacco establishes technical college to diversify to training

Yetu Sacco has established a training institute called Pamoja Technical Training College, becoming one of the first Saccos to diversify into technical training.

The seven-storey institute has 84 rooms and is located in Majani Plaza in Nkubu town in South Imenti constituency of Meru County.

The institution kicked off training in January 2023 with 54 pioneer students.

Speaking during the institution’s first Career Day, Sacco CEO Dennis Kirimi said the school is meant to benefit the youth.

“The college is already up and running and it’s fully registered by TVET. We are the first Sacco in Meru County to start such a learning institution,” said Kirimi.

He said they decided to start the college after realizing that in Imenti South Sub-county, there is no technical institution that can absorb the youth who have completed secondary education.

The CEO said they felt the need to empower the community because without education, even the Sacco will not survive.

He passionately appealed to parents with children who have completed secondary school to enroll them into the college.

Kirimi said the students will be trained on important skills meant to uplift their living standards and also enable them shun drug abuse.

The CEO said after graduation, one will be self-reliant and will not be depending on white collar jobs to earn a living.

“We have several courses ranging from computer packages to automotive engineering, the former costing as little as Ksh3,500 at the basic level,” he said.

He advised parents who cannot afford fees not to shy away from enrolling their children, but instead approach them for support.

“We give education loans to enable parents pay school fees,” he remarked.

Kirimi said the career day was meant to guide and counsel the students on course selection, adding that they also advise on the negative impact of drugs.

A total of 510 prospective students attended the career day.
