14 Nyeri tea directors sent home as new ones takes over

Tea farmers in Nyeri County have elected new directors to manage their tea factories.

The farmers sent home 17 directors, re-electing 3 who were directors at Rigati, Chinga and Gathuthi, the elections exposed frustrations the farmers have been going through under leadership of the former directors.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi said that the polls are meant to bring sanity to the sector and eradicate cases filed by former directors in courts of claims of being removed from offices illegally.

Speaking during launching the polls during a visit to factories in Nyeri and Murang’a counties Linturi added that the government had no preferred candidate for the directors.

He said farmers had the right to choose their representatives.
