Migori detectives seize 55 bags of subsidised fertiliser

Seized subsidised fertiliser bags

Government-subsidised fertiliser clearly labelled “NOT FOR SALE” was being sold openly in Migori Township, leading to the arrest of three women and the seizure of 55 bags, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has said.

The case began when members of the public alerted police to the illegal trade. Detectives from Suna East responded quickly and traced the sale to Apida area in Suna Central Location. They found the fertiliser on offer despite restrictions governing how the product should be distributed.

Three women were arrested at the location. Under questioning, they took officers to the stores where they kept their stock. A search of those premises uncovered the 55 bags, which were collected as exhibits.

The suspects were then escorted to Migori Police Station along with the fertiliser. They were booked there as police consider the next steps in the case.

Commending the public for their cooperation, the DCI said timely tip-offs continue to give detectives the leads they need to expose crime and safeguard public resources.
