The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced plans to work with Makueni County in a five year project that will transform livestock feed production and create opportunities for young people.
The project, known as Creating Shared Value in the Livestock Sector with Young People in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, will be implemented in 15 counties including Makueni. It is expected to benefit more than 2,000 youth by promoting sustainable fodder production, agribusiness and commercialization of livestock feeds.

During a courtesy call on August 26, the FAO team introduced the initiative to Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, who welcomed the partnership, stressing that livestock remains central to the livelihoods of many households in the county.
She noted that the program will improve farmer incomes, create jobs for youth and women, and contribute to food and nutrition security. The initiative also incorporates climate-smart practices aimed at strengthening resilience and promoting environmental sustainability.
