A new cohort of farmers has completed coffee farm management training at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO) Coffee Research Institute (CRI). The graduation opens a new chapter for smallholders looking to run more productive coffee enterprises.
The training gave farmers hands on experience in key areas of coffee production. These included farm establishment, crop management and harvesting.
Participants gained practical skills in good coffee farming practices. The programme covered the full production cycle, from setting up a coffee farm to managing crops and harvesting the final produce.
Institute officials said the farmers now have a stronger grasp of modern coffee farming methods. This puts them in a better position to build sustainable and profitable coffee businesses.

CRI said the graduates’ future rests on the knowledge, confidence and skills gained during training. The institute believes this will help farmers contribute directly to reviving Kenya’s coffee sector.
Coffee production in Kenya has declined over recent decades. Programmes like this one form part of wider efforts to rebuild farmer capacity and improve output nationwide.
KALRO CRI said its support for farmers does not end at graduation. The institute plans to offer more training and skills development opportunities to help graduates keep up with changing farming practices.
