Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has called on Kenyans studying and working abroad to channel more investments back home and use their influence to demand better governance. He said the diaspora community remains one of the country’s most important development partners and should play a more active role in shaping Kenya’s economic future.

Speaking in Chicago during an engagement with Kenyans and East Africans living in the United States, held on the sidelines of the ongoing programme on illiberal democracy and its global impact, Mwangangi said Machakos County offers strong investment prospects due to its strategic location.

Mwangagi noted that the county’s proximity to Nairobi and major transport corridors including the Standard Gauge Railway, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway makes it an ideal base for manufacturing and logistics.

The Deputy Governor added that investors setting up factories in Machakos would benefit from seamless access to road, rail and air transport, enabling efficient movement of goods. He encouraged diaspora Kenyans to act as ambassadors for the country by helping attract investors and promoting opportunities available in Kenya.

“Beyond sending money home, think about investing in Kenya because that is how the African continent will grow,” Mwangangi said. He also urged them to hold leaders accountable, saying good governance is central to national progress. “You need to put pressure on policymakers back home because they are there to serve you. Developed countries advanced because their leaders prioritized service to the people,” he said.
