Meru residents and leaders have welcomed the appointment of County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Baptista Muriki Kanyaru, to the board of Family Bank of Kenya.

The bank announced that Kanyaru’s entry into its board is expected to strengthen governance, strategy, and regulatory compliance as the institution expands its footprint in the country’s banking sector.

Local leaders described the appointment as a vote of confidence in Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia’s administration, noting that the recognition of a serving county executive by a national financial institution reflects the quality and competence of Meru’s leadership team.

Family Bank, in its statement, cited Kanyaru’s more than a decade of experience in legal practice, corporate governance, and strategic leadership as key assets he brings to the board.

Residents praised the move, saying it elevates Meru’s profile nationally. Ahmed Latif commended Governor Mutuma’s cabinet, describing it as composed of highly skilled technocrats capable of driving the county’s development agenda.

“The recognition of one of his cabinet members by Family Bank through appointment as a Director speaks volumes about the quality of leadership in this administration. Meru County is back on the right path and on a positive development trajectory,” Latif said.

Other residents echoed the sentiments, with Ken Mananga congratulating Kanyaru and describing his multiple leadership roles as a sign of trust and divine favour.

Kanyaru currently serves as Meru’s CECM for Water, sits on the boards of Kiegoi and Igembe Tea Factories, and is also a director at KTDA Holdings.

Family Bank highlighted his strong legal and governance expertise, noting that he holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Moi University, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Strategic Management at Kenya Methodist University. He is also an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
