Milk processor Brookside Dairy has released KSh255 million in bonuses to its contracted farmers during the six months ending May 2026.

The payouts were issued to suppliers who met quality standards and surpassed milk delivery targets under the company’s long-running incentive programme.

The bonus, which is paid in addition to regular milk payments, is intended to encourage the production of clean milk throughout the value chain by rewarding compliance with quality standards.

Brookside Dairy General Manager for Milk Production Emmanuel Kabaki said the programme, now in its seventh year, encourages farmers to invest in quality animal feed and enhance on-farm hygiene standards, helping to minimise milk rejections and improve their earnings.

“The reward scheme is helping build a safer and more competitive dairy sector while ensuring consumers receive high-quality, nutritious products,” said Kabaki.

He further noted that co-operatives are being enhanced to improve efficiency and increase raw milk production. According to him, the beneficiaries include both individual farmers and organized groups that achieved the required quality and quantity benchmarks.

Kabaki emphasized that incentives are based on protein and butterfat content rather than milk volume alone, a move aimed at improving access to both local and international markets.

“Good animal husbandry practices also help dairy farmers to maximise their earnings by preventing costly milk rejections and veterinary expenses,” he stated.

The milk processor believes that the payout is expected to encourage fodder conservation for dry seasons. Farmers were urged to register for the next reward cycle, due in December 2026.
