The African Development Bank (AfDB) has awarded a consultancy contract to BDO India Services Private Limited, working in consortium with the East Africa Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Efficiency (EACREEE), to carry out a feasibility study exploring clean energy solutions across facilities run by the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA).
According to a publication notice from the Bank’s corporate procurement division, the winning consortium is based in Mumbai, India, with EACREEE serving as a regional body dedicated to promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency across East Africa.
The contract is valued at USD 63,700 (approx. Ksh 8.2 million) and will run for a period of six months, having formally begun in early August.
The consultant’s task is to help KTDA identify and compare different clean energy technologies, then settle on the most suitable and viable option for its operations.

The work will include detailed technical design, financial analysis and risk assessment, ultimately producing an implementation roadmap that KTDA can use to guide its transition to cleaner energy sources.
The initiative falls under the Bank’s wider push to support clean energy adoption within East Africa’s agricultural and industrial value chains.
The Bank said the contract was awarded through a competitive selection process that weighed both technical merit and cost. Two firms submitted proposals for consideration.
The winning consortium, led by BDO India in partnership with EACREEE, was ranked ahead of a competing bid from EED Advisory working alongside Miltec Engineering, a Nairobi-based firm.
The Bank noted that any unsuccessful bidder wishing to understand the reasons behind their evaluation may submit a formal request to the relevant department for clarification.
