The proposed urbanisation strategies employed in Murang’a have been lauded as an initiative designed to propel development and growth in the coming years.
The County Budget and Economic Council members outlined that prudent use of resources, through community-centred development programmes and the capacity building and empowerment of staff, has led to effective service delivery at the ward level.
Council committee members Peter Munga, Jimna Mbaru and Muthoni Gichohi spoke after a meeting convened to evaluate the development programmes undertaken in the year and planning for the future.
Munga, who chairs the council, said that in the past two years, the leadership had managed to reshape the destiny of the county, with prospects of scaling the heights through the upgrading of rural market centres.

In the meeting for the council members with the Murang’a Executive Committee, attended by Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Munga said the Murang’a smart cities programme has continued to open the rural markets and attract investors.
“The county is back in the fold owing to the development track record implied by the Governor and his team that in the coming years will pay back,” said Munga, the founder of Equity Bank.
Mbaru hailed the Murang’a Industrial Park programme, where some investors had completed construction, awaiting the rollout of machines for production.
The industrialization strategy employed by the devolved unit, he explained, is geared towards turning Murang’a to urbanisation according to the strategic plan for the year 2050.
“It is worth noting that presently we are working on laying down the required infrastructure that will lead to full industrialization in the coming years,” he said.
Others present included Kakuzi PLC Limited Managing Director Chris Flowers, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania, and members of the Executive Committee led by County Secretary Newton Mwangi, among other committee members.
