Ninety-two groups and associations registered with the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) in Bonchari Constituency, Kisii County, have received common-user machinery to enhance productivity, promote value addition and create employment opportunities.
The beneficiaries, comprising women, youth and persons with disabilities, received the equipment during a recent Economic Empowerment Forum held at Nyagoge.
The forum was presided over by the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Susan Auma Mang’eni, CBS, and hosted by Kisii County Woman Representative Donya Dorice Aburi.
Speaking during the forum, PS Mang’eni reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the growth and sustainability of Micro and Small Enterprises, noting that the initiative aligns with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
She said BETA places MSMEs at the centre of economic transformation by expanding enterprise development opportunities, creating employment and improving household incomes.

The PS also highlighted the impact of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project in Kisii County, noting that 6,212 young people have benefited from its start-up capital component.
A total of Ksh155.3 million has been disbursed to support the establishment and growth of businesses owned by the beneficiaries.
Mang’eni said mentorship of the beneficiaries is ongoing and urged the young entrepreneurs to participate actively in the programme to strengthen their entrepreneurial and business management skills.
She noted that the mentorship would help beneficiaries utilise the capital effectively, address emerging business challenges and establish sustainable enterprises.
MSEA reaffirms support, flags open cohorts
Representing MSEA Chief Executive Officer Henry Rithaa, the Authority’s Director for Innovation and Infrastructure Development, Eng. Edward Karani, said MSEA was committed to providing Micro and Small Enterprises with access to common-user machinery to enhance productivity, support value addition and facilitate business expansion.
Karani also urged eligible MSMEs and groups to apply for support under the ongoing Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation Project (KJET) Cohorts 3 and 4, whose application window closes on September 21, 2026.
Equipment spans multiple trades
The equipment handed over included sewing and knitting machines, hairdressing and salon kits, car wash machines, woodwork machines and welding machines, among other enterprise-support equipment and accessories.
The initiative is expected to equip the beneficiary groups to expand their enterprises, create employment, increase incomes and contribute to Kenya’s broader economic transformation.
