President William Ruto has handed over keys to 2,157 homeowners at the Ksh5.3 billion Pioneer Affordable Housing Project in Eldoret City, Uasin Gishu County, marking a major step in the government’s efforts to provide decent and affordable housing for Kenyans.
The Pioneer estate in Kapseret is designed to provide modern homes alongside commercial, educational and recreational facilities aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.
According to an update on Ruto’s Facebook page, the development features 104 shops, a kindergarten, playgrounds, green open spaces, a clubhouse and a swimming pool. It will also include a junior school, two basketball courts and a football pitch, creating a community where residents can live, work and play.
The project is part of the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, which seeks to increase access to decent housing while supporting urban development and creating employment opportunities.

Ruto said the Affordable Housing Programme has also incorporated local artists, including painters, to decorate buildings, creating employment and supporting the creative economy.
The handover marks an important milestone for hundreds of families who can now move into their homes and begin enjoying the benefits of planned residential development. However, the full benefits of the estate will depend on the effective operation of its commercial, educational, healthcare and recreational amenities.
The Pioneer project reflects the government’s wider strategy of combining housing development with job creation, business growth and improved community facilities.
With more housing projects planned across Eldoret, the government expects the developments to expand homeownership opportunities while supporting the city’s continued growth.
