Bomet Governor Prof Hillary Barchok has broken ground for a coffee pulping machine house for Masare Coffee Cooperative Society.
The building will rise at Cheboin Silanga location in Longisa Ward, Bomet East sub-county. It will shelter a pulping machine worth Ksh 2.5 million, which the county has already bought.
Once complete, the facility is expected to change how the society handles its harvest. Farmers will be able to process their cherry closer to home. Aggregation of the crop should also become easier, since the cooperative will have the equipment and the space under one roof.

Efficiency is another gain the county is counting on. With a dedicated structure, the machine will be protected and the society’s operations should run more smoothly. As a result, delays that often slow down processing could be reduced.
The project also fits into the county’s wider push for value addition. By supporting processing at the cooperative level, the county government hopes more of the benefits of coffee will stay with those who grow it.
In addition, the benefits are not expected to stop at Masare. Prof Barchok’s administration says coffee farmers across the county stand to gain. The investment is meant to back their agricultural activities and improve their livelihoods.
