Siaya County government is seeking to formulate a legislation that will legalize the production, sale and consumption of chang’aa.
According to the County’s Executive Committee member for Enterprise and Industrial development Jaoko Oburu, they have already established a liquor directorate that is currently checking on the required standards before they can legalize the liquor.
Oburu told Sacco Review that they are looking into ways through which the local brews including Busaa can be produced in a standardized manner and properly packaged to boost trade and even create employment in Siaya County.
He cited Uganda and Tanzania where Waragi and Konyagi had been legalized respectively.
