The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has won the Digital Agricultural Trade Facilitation Provider of the Year award at the 11th Africa Digital Economy Awards (ADEA) in Nairobi.

The ceremony took place on September 9, 2026, at the Emara Ole-Sereni Hotel. It brought together technology leaders, government officials and innovators from across the continent, including delegates from Cameroon, Nigeria and South Africa.

The honour celebrates AFA’s contribution to digital agricultural trade facilitation. It also acknowledges the Authority’s public service delivery and innovation record.

Notably, the win reaffirms AFA’s commitment to leveraging digital solutions to strengthen agricultural value chains. It signals continued effort to deliver efficient services to farmers, traders and other stakeholders across Kenya’s agricultural sector.

AFA was represented at the ceremony by ICT Deputy Director Winnie Mbithe and Yulia Tola. Their presence underscored the Authority’s growing profile in continental digital transformation circles.

Meanwhile, ADEA has become known as the “Oscars” of Africa’s technology and telecoms industry. This year’s 11th edition spanned categories covering fintech, cybersecurity, health tech, edtech and digital transformation, alongside agriculture.

AFA’s win places Kenya’s agricultural sector alongside honourees from banking, telecommunications and infrastructure at one of the continent’s most closely watched digital economy events.

Ultimately, digital trade facilitation tools aim to cut delays, reduce paperwork and widen market access for smallholder farmers and traders. As Africa’s digital trade agenda advances, agencies like AFA face growing pressure to modernise cross-border and domestic trade processes.
