The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) has maintained the green leaf tea from Region Five which is made up of Kericho and Bomet at Ksh 23 per kilogram.

In a statement released on Wednesday February 4, 2026, the agency resolved to maintain the current monthly rate after a meeting held by the factory boards.

“After reviewing the financial position of factories in Region Five, namely Kericho and Bomet counties, the factory boards, in a meeting held at Kapkatet Tea Factory, resolved to maintain the current monthly payment rate of Ksh23 per kilogram of green leaf.” Reads part of the statement.

The agency added that the boards noted that low tea absorption and low prices realised in the 2024/2025 financial year negatively affected factory cash flows. They also noted that the volume of tea in the factories has reduced, and farmers are encouraged to supply their tea in order to benefit from the expected good earnings in the coming months.

This led to the boards resolution to review and consider an increase in the monthly green leaf payment in the near future, when the financial position improves.

Led by their regional board members and factory chairmen, the factory leadership committed to working diligently to turn around the low earnings recorded last year.

They also appealed to farmers to improve and maintain high plucking standards to enhance tea quality and prices at the auction.
