AFC urges county farmers to apply for loans

Agricultural Finance Cooperation (AFC) is calling upon farmers in the vast Bungoma County to approach it for loans to enable them expand their farming activities.

According to AFC Country Director George Kubai , AFC is focusing on improving livelihood of farmers by giving them loans saying they should not shy away.

The director was speaking while officiating a ground breaking ceremony of their offices in Bungoma County said

“We have been operating in the county for some time now with our offices at the cereals board however, having our own premises that will be accessible at the County will be an added advantage to farmers,” he says.

He however told those who will successfully apply for the loans to ensure they repay on time to ensure the funds revolve saying those who have the tendency not to repay pegging on having the loans waived.

Also present at the event was Bungoma Deputy Governor Charles Ngome who requested the cooperation to lessen on rules to access the funds. He said many have been sceptical in wanting to apply for the funds due to the tedious exercise they have been previously been subjected to.

The Deputy Governor also called upon the national government to waive the debts of cane farmers who previously partook loans from AFC and took their cane to Mumias Sugar Company but unfortunately it trampled before they were paid.
