Suba North MP Caroli Omondi

Leaders drawn from sugarcane growing belt have called on the President William Ruto to assent into law the Sugar Bill that has now passed its first and second reading at the National Assembly and Senate.

Suba North MP Caroli Omondi said with the passing of the bill, farmers were bound to benefit fully from cane farming noting that they had tailored it to see more rebates channeled to the farmer and not miller as earlier before.

Omondi who said cane farming in the vast Western region was on the verge of collapse due to unfavorable pricing among other deductions on the farmers said the reforms  will uplift farmers and boost more cane production.

The Senate leader of majority who was responding to the MP quest to have the bill passed in the Senate confirmed that the House has already given it a clean bill of health and it was now awaiting the President’s approval before being made law.

As a Senate we have done our mandate and once passed into law farmers will have every reason to smile all the way to the bank as numerous benefits have been directed to them.
