Boda boda operators form sacco

Governor James Ongwae has launched a Kisii County Boda boda Savings Credit and Co-operative Society to assist motor-cycle operators mobilize savings for personal economic empowerment.
Speaking in Kisii town during the launch of the sacco, the Governor said the County Government will inject Sh200,000 into the sacco as part of the starting capital and assured the sacco’s officials of the county’s support in terms of administration and guidance in running the sacco professionally.
“As a County Government we would want to see this sacco grow into a giant sacco in the country to empower the boda boda riders to provide basic necessities for their families,” said Ongwae
The Governor said that besides the sacco assisting the operators with their immediate financial needs in terms of micro-credit, it will also come in handy in their sunset days when they have left bodaboda riding and use whatever they had saved to take care of themselves and their families.
Underscoring the importance of co-operative movement in mobilization of financial resources for socio-economic empowerment, Ongwae encouraged all bodaboda riders in the county to join the sacco.
