Kisii County Matatu Owners Association has called for road safety from all drivers and bodaboda riders.
The Association’s Chairman Simeon Nyamwaro said that most drivers compete for money and carry excess passengers for profit making especially at this time students are closing school a practice he says leads to accidents that could be avoided.
“We have lost many on our roads because of reckless driving from drank matatu operators who overload their vehicles with passages as if they are luggage.” he said.
The Chairman who spoke to the public at Kisii town during a road safety sensitization session, appealed to the traffic police to avoid taking bribes from drivers who they find in the wrong, adding that it is a tantamount to accidents.

” My office will work in hand with the National Transport Authority (NTA) to mount a crackdown on all road unworthy vehicles in the region as one of the strategies of curbing road accidents,” he said.
The Chairman asked the Ministry of education to encourage various school principals to service school vans and buses and also consider having young drivers who are able to handle such vehicles with ease
Nyamwaro also sound a warning to those defying traffic rules by using fake driving licenses, saying their days are numbered, adding that they are known and arrest notice shall soon be released on them.
He also asked students who are proceeding for their April Holiday to avoid boarding vehicles with excess passengers which might put their lives at risks.
