Uasin Gishu Chief Officer for Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Ruth Samoei has urged cooperative societies to allow young people in their management.
Speaking during a visit to the Kipsonoi Dairy Cooperative Society in Bomet County, Samoei noted that most cooperatives are run by old folks and that there is a need for a paradigm shift in the societies.
“It’s important for the youth to take the baton and ensure there is no leadership vacuum when founder members age,” she said, even as he urged cooperatives to embrace digitization to attract the young generation and to stick to their core business.
Samoei highlighted the importance of counties working together and embracing innovative practices.
She also recognized Kurur Women Cooperative Society members for their outstanding contribution to the growth of the cooperative movement and consequently getting the President’s award.
