Bomet County Government has rolled out a programme to plant tissue cultured bananas in all the 25 wards.
Bomet County Director of Co-operatives K. Kerich said this was aimed at helping societies and members engage in agri-business.
“We are providing 4,000 tissue culture banana seedlings in every ward at Sh50 per piece. This venture can guarantee a good retirement for most of our Sacco members,” he said.
He was speaking during Kipsigis Edis Sacco Society Annual Delegates Meeting.
The society has had a steady growth in its membership since its inception in 1991.
Last year its asset increased to Sh122.7 million while membership grew by 18.5 per cent.
The rise was correlated with a steady increase of 11.3 per cent in members’ deposits from Sh705 million to Sh784 million.
