Gathuthi Tea Factory in Nyeri County is inviting bids for the purchase of its unserviceable items, with a deadline of November 18, 2026. The factory, which is under the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), announced the tender in a notice dated October 28, 2026 and signed by its Factory Unit Manager.
Scrap metal makes up most of the lot. Bidders can compete for roughly 3,000 kilogrammes of assorted scrap metals, 1,500 kilogrammes of aluminium bins, 500 kilogrammes of stainless steel metals and 60 kilogrammes of copper wires. The weights are approximate. Beyond the metals, the factory is also selling two old 30 inch presorters, three McCloy dryer fans, three old water dispensers, one Epson LX300+ printer and one Dell desktop computer.
Pricing follows a clear rule. Bidders must quote scrap metal in kilogrammes, and every consignment will be weighed on the factory weighbridge before payment is made.

Participation carries a cost. Each bidder must pay a non refundable fee of Ksh1,000, either in cash or by banker’s cheque. Tender documents are sold at the factory’s accounts office once that fee is paid.
The items go on an “as is where is” basis. For that reason, the factory advises interested bidders to inspect the goods and make their own assessment before submitting a final price. Viewing runs from Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 4.00pm, and on Saturdays from 8.00am to 12.00 noon.
Completed bids must be placed in a plain sealed envelope marked “TENDER FOR UNSERVICEABLE ITEMS.” A copy of the deposit receipt should accompany each bid. Envelopes are to be dropped in the tender box at the factory’s Leaf Base office block on or before the closing date
