- KenGen appoints former Infrastructure Principal Secretary John Mosonik as board chairman, replacing Alfred Agoi Masadia.
- Mosonik brings over 30 years of experience in infrastructure, telecommunications and energy development.
- His appointment comes as KenGen prepares for a leadership transition following the selection of Ronoh Kibet as CEO.
Professor Engineer John Kipngetich Mosonik, a former Principal Secretary for Infrastructure, is the new chairman of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) Board of Directors. He takes over from Alfred Agoi Masadia.
Directors confirmed his election on Monday at a session held under the Government Owned Enterprises (GOE) Act, 2025. Mosonik is no stranger to the boardroom, having already sat on the KenGen board as a non executive director. In that role, he chaired the strategy committee that oversees the country’s geothermal expansion plans.
His new job begins at a busy moment. KenGen is pushing ahead with its G2G 2034 growth plan, which aims to raise power generation capacity across the region.

Mosonik brings more than three decades of experience across government and private business. At the State Department of Infrastructure, he oversaw the construction of 6,000 kilometres of rural access roads. He has also held senior roles in telecommunications, industrial policy and oil and gas development.
On the professional front, he is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (FIEK) and a registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). He also teaches as an associate professor of business strategy and digital transformation at Kenya Highlands University. His academic record includes doctorates from Northcentral University in the United States and Moi University, plus a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Nairobi.
His arrival adds to a wider reshuffle at the top of the power producer. Ronoh Kibet was recently selected to succeed Peter Waweru Njenga as Chief Executive Officer, which means KenGen will soon have fresh leadership both in the boardroom and in management.
