Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has made a strong appeal to the national government to waive the long-standing debts that are hindering the operations of cooperative societies within Machakos County.
Speaking at a meeting with the Kwa Mating’i Farmers Cooperative Society in Matungulu, Mwangangi highlighted the severe impact of these debts.
“Many cooperative societies are crippled by these debts and are unable to function properly,” Mwangangi stated. He revealed that the county government would soon send a detailed list of the affected societies and their debts to the Ministry of Cooperatives, seeking urgent intervention.

The Deputy Governor also advised cooperative members and leaders to be prudent and avoid incurring new debts if the waivers are granted.
“It is essential to manage our finances wisely and not fall into the same traps that led to these debts,” he cautioned.
According to him well managed and debt free cooperative societies can help farmers make big profits.
