Uasin Gishu Governor, Jonathan Bii has distributed Ksh 46.8 million County Enterprise Development Fund (CEDF) to cooperatives and Saccos in to the six sub counties in the County.
Speaking after distributing the Cheques governor Bii called on the beneficiaries to use the funds prudently.
“We have distributed Sh 46.8 million to 27 Cooperative societies engaged in different economic projects. My aim is to ensure that residents are empowered financially and be wealth creators,” he added.
According to the governor, joining cooperatives empowers one financially and one gets to have a higher bargaining power when it comes to accessing funds from both the county and National governments.
“Youths have showed low interest in joining Saccos. Almost all cooperatives are inhabited by old people. They should also join for them to benefit from the funds being offered and cases of unemployment will be a thing of the past,” Bii decried.
He reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring that the lives of residents are empowered through joining cooperatives because they play a critical role to enable the realization of growth and prosperity.
“My government will continue empowering active groups. Let’s take advantage of the low-interest loans provided by the County because it has an impact on collaborative entrepreneurship and economic growth,” he said.
The County boss called for accountability from the management of various cooperatives
Societies noted that embezzlement of public funds will not be tolerated.
“If you try stealing the society’s funds we will come for you and dispose your property with
the sole aim of recovering the society’s funds. I will not allow under my watch for any cooperative official to steal public funds,” warned Bii.
