Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has inspected the Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project intake at Kisekini in Matungulu Sub‑county, cautioning residents against vandalism of the facility that is set to serve more than 10,000 residents and farmers across Machakos.
The inspection formed part of her development tour of Matungulu Sub‑county, where she made several stopovers to commission and review ongoing projects. “This morning, I started my development tour of Matungulu Sub‑county with an inspection of the Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project intake at Kisekini, which will benefit residents and farmers,” she said.
Initiated by the County Government of Machakos and implemented by the Tana Athi Water Works Development Agency, the project is now 97 percent complete. Once operational, it will produce 6,600 cubic metres of treated water per day, strengthening supply networks in Mbiuni, Kyeleni, Mwala, Masii, Matungulu, and surrounding areas. More than 100,000 households are expected to benefit, with distribution managed by the Mwala Water and Sanitation Company.
Governor Wavinya urged residents to protect the infrastructure, warning that vandalism would undermine the community’s own progress. “These projects are good for us. When you vandalize a project like this, what are you doing to yourself? When the government invests in such projects, it is the responsibility of the people to take care of the investments,” she said.
She linked the project to broader county priorities, stressing its role in food security and sustainable development. “This is about food security,” she added, noting that reliable water supply is central to boosting agricultural productivity and improving livelihoods.
The Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project is one of several flagship investments under the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2023–2027, which prioritizes access to clean and reliable water for residents and farmers.
