Gov’t asked to fast-track completion of Koru-Soin dam project

The Parliamentary Committee for Blue Economy Water and Sanitation has urged the government to avail funds to jumpstart the stalled Ksh19 billion Koru-Soin dam project straddled across Kisumu and Kericho counties.

Speaking during a tour of the project, the Committee Vice Chairperson and Kuria East Member of Parliament (MP) Marwa Kitayama called for jumpstarting of the project considering the inherent benefits in store for the residents.

Matuga MP acknowledged the feasibility of the project, adding that it will go a long way in spurring the economic position of the area.

The MP noted that residents who were displaced during the preparation and construction of the project have been compensated to the tune of Ksh1 billion.

Area MP James Onyango Koyoo asked the residents to support the project.

Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency CEO Crispin Juma said that they have already put plans in motion to ensure all areas in the dam’s vicinity access clean water.
