- Government plans to equip youth groups in Homa Bay with practical skills and resources to develop sustainable businesses.
- Nearly 600 youth groups will identify suitable enterprises, with proposals subject to verification before support is allocated.
- The programme will promote entrepreneurship, employment and youth empowerment while strengthening peace, security and unity in the county.
Principal Secretary (PS) for the State Department for Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, has outlined a coordinated programme aimed at equipping youth groups in Homa Bay County with practical skills and resources to expand sustainable economic opportunities.
Speaking in Odino Location during a meeting with youth leaders representing nearly 600 youth groups from across the county, the PS asked the officials to consult their members and identify enterprises that would best serve their groups.
“You are here on behalf of your members, consult them, agree on the enterprise that best serves the group and report back,” the PS said.
The programme will follow clear guidelines, with proposals assessed before resources are allocated to eligible youth groups.
“We do not have unlimited time or resources. We must therefore work within clear guidelines and ensure that the available support benefits as many genuine groups as possible,” the PS said.

Dr. Omollo said verification teams would visit communities where necessary to establish the existence of the groups and assess their identified needs before support is provided.
The initiative will also focus on technical education, practical training and support for small-scale enterprises. According to the PS, the government seeks to help young people establish sustainable livelihoods rather than offer temporary assistance.
“We want to give our young people a practical starting point. They should use this support to build businesses, create employment and become economically independent,” the PS said.
The meeting also addressed peace and security concerns affecting young people in the county. Dr. Omollo called for stronger cooperation between youth leaders, the county government, national government administrators and security agencies.
“We will support you, but we also want you and your team to work closely with these young people. Enforcement alone cannot solve every problem. We must engage them, guide them and create meaningful opportunities for them.”
The PS further emphasised that the empowerment programme would benefit young people across Homa Bay County regardless of their political affiliation.
“This initiative is for every young person in Homa Bay. Political differences must never divide our youth or prevent them from benefiting from development opportunities,” the PS said.
The youth empowerment programme will prioritise transparency, accountability and coordination to ensure that resources reach verified groups and deliver lasting economic benefits.
