Residents of Kajiado North constituency are set to benefit from three modern markets as the national government moves to improve trading facilities and provide better working spaces for traders who have been operating along roadsides.

President William Ruto on Monday opened the Ongata Rongai Modern Market, a Ksh70 million project expected to provide trading space for about 1,000 traders. The government is also constructing another modern market in Olekasasi, Ongata Rongai Ward.

The President also commissioned construction of a Ksh210 million market in Kware, Nkaimurunya Ward, which will benefit more than 1,000 traders in the town.

During his visit, Ruto inspected the Ngong VET Affordable Housing Project, a 1,910-unit development that is now 60% complete and has created jobs for about 1,500 young people.

The government is also constructing affordable housing units in Nkaimurunya, where local youths have secured employment through the project.

“We promised Kenyans dignified and affordable housing and, project by project, we are on course to deliver on that commitment,” Ruto said.

He said the national affordable housing programme is targeting 300,000 housing units countrywide and has so far created employment for about 1.1 million Kenyans.
