KCB Group CEO named African Business Leader of the Year

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Group Chief Executive Officer, Paul Russo has been named African Business Leader of the Year by Africa Leadership Magazine.

This happened at the 14th Annual Leadership awards which took place at the UK House of Lords in Portsmouth, United Kingdom.

Paul Russo’s nomination was the result of intense and competitive evaluation across the African continent, where leadership attributes, visionary thinking, and significant contributions played pivotal roles in the selection process. Russo was chosen from a strong pool of nominees across the continent based on his leadership abilities, transformative vision, and exceptional contributions to the African corporate scene.

“It is a great honour to receive this esteemed recognition. This award shows the collective efforts of the entire KCB team and our commitment to driving positive change and sustainable growth across this region. I am humbled by this acknowledgement and remain dedicated to advancing our mission of transforming lives and communities through innovative banking solutions,” Russo said.

Since assuming the role of CEO, Russo has prioritised innovation, sustainability, and socio-economic progress across the region. Under his leadership, the lender’s assets surged to KSh2 trillion, and it regained its position as the most profitable bank in East Africa, reporting a remarkable 69 per cent increase in net profit to KSh16.5 billion during first quarter.

“I am humbled by this acknowledgement and remain dedicated to advancing our mission of transforming lives and communities through innovative banking solutions,” said Russo.

The African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) recognizes outstanding corporate practices and exceptional achievers within Africa’s business landscape and private sector.

Russo joins former KCB Group CEO, Joshua Oigara in this achievement. Other Kenyans who have received this honor include James Mwangi, Equity Group’s CEO and Vimal Shah, Bidco Africa Chairman.
