5,000 Machakos County Government employees are set to benefit from a comprehensive medical insurance cover from Jubilee Insurance Ltd following the inking of a deal between the county government and the insurance firm.
The deal, which is nearing conclusion, will ensure all employees across different job groups benefit from the coverage which is fully paid for by the county.
The partnership came after the CECM for Devolution Joyce Mwikali together with the Chief Officer for Public Service and Performance Management Lawrence Maingi held discussions with the County Government Workers. Union leaders, Jubilee Insurance and Human Resource officers over the proposed cover.
Speaking during a sensitization meeting at the Machakos Youth Center, Mwikali said that the County had advertised the tender and received nine bids where Jubilee Insurance emerged the winner.
She commended the Workers’ Union for pushing for the welfare of its members and urged them to support the new medical scheme.
“The cover, which will be fully paid for by the county government, will ensure each employee plus 5 other beneficiaries are insured,” she said.
Maingi noted that the medical cover was in line with the recommendations provided by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
The cover provides for hospitalization bill, maternity, dental and optical cover, homecare nursing, rehabilitation, psychiatry, and last expenses as well as a COVID-19 cover of up to Ksh500,000 among other benefits.
Beneficiaries can access the services at the Bishop Kioko Hospital, Equity Afia, the Agha Khan Hospital, and Machakos Children’s Hospital in Machakos town.
