The Department of Veterinary Services has completed a 14-day livestock vaccination drive and disease surveillance exercise across Mandera County.
The exercise, carried out in collaboration with development partners, also included a seven-day disease surveillance component. In total, it covered 44 villages and reached 941 households.
During the campaign, 46,904 sheep and 55,138 goats were vaccinated against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) and dewormed. Meanwhile, 3,160 cattle were vaccinated against Black Quarter (BQ).

Beyond vaccination, teams treated 2,062 sick animals. These comprised 273 sheep, 1,238 goats, 370 camels and 181 cattle.
Furthermore, the surveillance exercise saw 98 samples collected from sheep, goats, cattle and camels for confirmatory laboratory diagnosis. The samples will help detect and confirm disease threats early, supporting faster response where needed.
