Marsabit County Governor Mohamud Mohamed Ali led a fundraising drive organised by the Gumi Saku Miraa Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation (SACCO), aimed at expanding financial inclusion and bolstering economic opportunities for local women micro-entrepreneurs.
The community driven drive, held in Saku Constituency, brought together county executive leaders, local administration officials and grassroots business groups to strengthen the cooperative’s capital base.
Speaking during the event, Governor Mohamud reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting community based enterprises that cushion families against hard economic times.

The Governor also underscored the role of SACCOs in driving economic empowerment and creating opportunities for traders, women and young people, while also calling for peaceful politics ahead of the 2027 general election.
“Many women in our rural communities earn their livelihoods through hard work, with miraa farming and trading serving as an important source of income for their families,” he said. “When we empower women economically, we empower families, transform communities, and accelerate the development of Marsabit County.”
The county government has continuously pushed for the formalisation of local informal trades into registered Saccos to streamline support and capacity building programmes.
Governor Mohamud noted that the empowerment drive marked a key step in expanding financial access to underserved groups, assuring the Sacco of continued county government partnership to improve local market spaces and trading conditions across Marsabit town and Saku Constituency.
