The Meru Central Dairy Cooperatives Union was on Tuesday February 19 conferred ISO Certification after union’s training on the Quality-Based Milk Payment System (QBMPS) and their commitment to proceed with a full rollout.
The Conferment led by the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Livestock Development Jonathan Mueke represented a well-deserved recognition of years of delivering quality dairy products to Kenyan households.
Speaking during the event in Meru PS Mueke said QBMPS shift signals more than compliance; it reflects a deliberate move toward better dairy practices, improved farmer returns, enhanced consumer safety, and readiness for overseas markets.

He added that milk buyers are no longer just purchasing volume, they are demanding excellence: High butterfat content, zero adulteration, antibiotics are a firm NO and strict adherence to safety parameters.
“The debate is shifting, from simply chasing better prices to producing genuinely great quality milk. Sustainable value and competitiveness begin “from grass to glass.” With Meru Dairy Union currently processing approximately 650,000 litres of milk per day, and the next phase targeting 1 million litres daily, the conversation across the value chain continues to evolve.” He said
The celebration, hosted by World Bank, was attended by CEO’S – Kenya Dairy Board – William Maritim & Meru Dairy Union – Kenneth Gitonga, KEBS – Esther Ngari, County CECs, State Department for Livestock officials, local administration and Meru Dairy Union stakeholders.
