The Mwalimu National SACCO Chief Executive Officer, Kenneth Odhiambo Opiyo has won the SACCO CEO OF THE YEAR award.
Opiyo was announced by the Strategic Nest Corporation, a premier research-driven communications and public relations firm as the best CEO in the SACCOs and Microfinance Category, being among those on the list of Strategic Business & Leadership Awards 2025 winners, which also includes CEOs from various other sectors.
Opiyo, a Certified Public Accountant, received recognition for his visionary leadership and one of the change makers in Kenya’s SACCO business.
“We believe Africa’s greatest wealth is not its land, minerals or industries-it is her people. And yet, the real change –makers are rarely celebrated. That’s why we built The Nest- a home where Africa’s excellence is recognized, nurtured and given wings to inspire generations,” said Samwel Njari, CEO Strategic Nest Corporation and Head of Secretariat.

Other CEOs on the honours podium were drawn from Finance and Banking Sector, Technology and Innovation, Healthcare, Manufacturing and Industry, Real Estate and Construction, Retail and Consumer Goods, Media and Communications, Agriculture and Agribusiness, Logistics & Transport, Tourism, Energy& Utilities, Insurance & Risk Management, Education and Training, Telecommunications, Social Enterprise and Impact Ventures, Fintech and Mobile Solutions, Fashion and Lifestyle as well as E-Commerce and Online platforms.
The award came after the Strategic Nest Corporation team conducted months of research which included community voices to identify potential candidates across 50 categories. The process, which began in December 2024, looked at a pool of 297 CEOs and 362 Corporates.
