Milk farmers in Meru County have welcomed President William Ruto’s remarks on plans to raise the price of milk to Ksh 65 per litre, a move meant to improve their livelihoods after years of financial challenges.
Speaking at Nkubu market in South Imenti constituency, Meru County farmer Kirimi Kanyatta lauded President Ruto’s recent proposal to increase milk price, noting the initiative would boost farmers’ earnings and help them meet the rising cost of production.
Kanyatta called on the government to ensure farmers are not subjected to additional taxation once the new price takes effect.

“We welcome President Ruto’s plans to raise the price of milk to Ksh 65 per litre. This will inevitably improve their livelihoods after years of financial challenges. The initiative will also boost farmers’ earnings and help them meet the rising cost of production,” said Kanyatta.
Kanyatta is a milk farmer who hails from Nkuene ward in South Imenti constituency, a region that produces a significant amount of milk that is delivered mainly to the Meru Dairy Union factory in Meru town.
Many farmers shared similar sentiments and expressed optimism that improved milk prices would provide the much-needed relief to dairy farmers and strengthen the sector.
