Meru Woman Representative Elizabeth Kailemia has urged the youth to embrace a saving culture by enrolling in registered groups to benefit from government funding.

MP Kailemia stated that the government and financial institutions give priority only to organized groups, such as youth and women, insisting that young people must form or join established groups.

Speaking in Meru town, the lawmaker challenged the youth to start saving as little as Ksh100 before planning to bank larger amounts.

“I have realized that the majority of Kenyan youth don’t save for the future. If they fail to save in their youth, they will end up soliciting bursary funds to pay school fees for their own children.

She expressed concern that many Kenyans have not yet embraced saving, noting that saving at a young age is the best way to transform an individual into a responsible and financially stable parent in the future.

“I honestly want the youth to be proud and responsible parents in the future, as they have many years ahead before and after starting their own families. Children require basic needs, uniforms, and fees before being enrolled in any learning institution in Kenya or abroad,” said the lawmaker.

She challenged young people to be role models to other Kenyans by registering in organized groups, adding that table banking remains one of the best ways to save and invest funds.
