Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has termed the establishment of Western Kenya Muslim Sacco a crucial step towards ensuring financial independence of women in rural areas.
Speaking during the annual women Muslim women Quran competition in Kakamega,the prime CS reiterated that the government firmely supports the move by women to financially advance themselves since they are a pillar to families and the nation at large.
“The establishment of this Sacco showcases the importance of inclusive economic growth and highlights the valuable contributions that our diverse communities make to the nation’s prosperity. It is a testament to the unstoppable spirit of our nations,” he said.
Commission of Revenue Allocation (CRA) Commissioner Hadija Juma said the Sacco will enable women to save and access financial services to open businesses, improve their skills and access education opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
The Sharia-Compliant Sacco will provide interest –free loans to women in 500 women groups, referred as Tawaasul, in Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega and Vihiga counties.
