Naivasha Sub-County Cooperative Officer Hanifa Wabomba has urged co-operative societies in Naivasha and Gilgil sub-counties to strictly follow the laws governing the sector to improve service delivery to members.
Speaking in Naivasha town, Wabomba said members are the main investors and owners of the cooperative movement. She added that they deserve the best possible service to help uplift their economic status.
She encouraged boards of directors to conduct member education and keep members informed of new services introduced by their Saccos. She also urged boards to give members adequate room to ask questions about the affairs of the Sacco.
“Members should actively interact with the management of the cooperative movement during education days and annual general meetings. They should be given adequate opportunity to ask relevant questions, which should be correctly answered by the management,” Wabomba said.

She added that transparency and accountability build members’ confidence and keep them trusting their Sacco.
“Members can only save where they know there is accountability and transparency. We urge the boards of directors and management to ensure there are high standards of accountability over the resources of the cooperative movement,” Wabomba said.
Wabomba also urged Saccos to ensure they are audited as required by law, adding that audits are the only way for members to know their resources are being well utilised.
