Lamu County is set to host a Ksh15 billion palm oil project, following Governor Issa Timamy’s push to attract major investment to the region.
Timamy said the project will commence soon, after nearly two years of planning and assessments on land, water, and infrastructure. He spoke on August 12, 2026, at the county headquarters, following a consultative meeting with CPF Group and Witu Nyongoro Ranch leadership.
The first phase, valued at about Ksh15 billion, is among the largest agricultural ventures ever targeted for Lamu. Witu Nyongoro Ranch has provided land and signed agreements to facilitate the investment, paving the way for lease finalisation and project kick off.

Governor Timamy welcomed the development as a milestone in positioning Lamu as an investor friendly destination while creating sustainable livelihoods. He also thanked the National Government for supporting an environment conducive to major projects.
Palm trees are expected to mature in three to five years, generating economic activity through production, processing, logistics, and value addition. The project will create jobs for youth and open opportunities for businesses in Witu and neighbouring areas.
CPF Group Managing Director and CEO Dr Hosea Kili expressed optimism that the investment will benefit Lamu and the wider region. Ranch Chairman Athman Badi hailed the partnership as historic, urging leaders to protect the opportunity for long term community gains.
