Saccos fraud investigation unit to start operation next month

Co-operatives Principal Secretary Ali Noor Ismail has said the proposed Sacco Societies Fraud Investigation Unit (SSFIU) will start operations next month.

The unit will have official from the Saccos Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

“Plans to operationalise the SSFIU are at an advanced stage and the new unit will be fashioned on the lines of the Banking Fraud Investigation Unit (BFIU) to deal with fraudsters within the Co-operative sector,” said Noor during the Harambee Sacco delegates meeting.

President Uhuru Kenyatta in July during Ushirika Day celebrations gave a directive for the unit to be set up.

The unit expected to eradicate corruption in the co-operative sector.
