The County Government of Siaya, in collaboration with Kakuzi PLC, has embarked on a technical partnership to boost avocado and macadamia farming in the county.
Speaking during a familiarisation visit to Kakuzi’s Makuyu orchards, Governor James Orengo highlighted plans to expose Siaya smallholder farmers to best practices in avocado and macadamia crop husbandry.
Orengo also said that the county will also explore avenues to acquire quality seedlings and build the technical capacity of its Agricultural Extension officers to support local farmers.

Kakuzi PLC MD Chris Flowers emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing farmer skills and promoting high-quality avocado and macadamia production for both domestic and export markets.
Flowes added that the partnership will also see Kakuzi participate in the upcoming Siaya International Trade and Investment Conference (SITICO), showcasing its innovative products, including ready-to-eat macadamia nuts and cold-pressed macadamia cooking oil.
The two said that this collaboration marks a key step in transforming agribusiness in Siaya County, empowering smallholder farmers, and creating sustainable economic growth.
