Fifteen youth groups in Siaya County have received machinery from the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA), part of a wider push to boost youth productivity, incomes and enterprise growth.
Equipment was handed over during an economic empowerment forum held at the Siaya County Government offices. Organisers included the Member of Parliament (MP) for Alego Usonga Constituency and Chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee,Samuel Atandi.
Machinery issued to the groups comprised arc welding machines, spot welding machines, plate compactors, car wash machines, ice popsicle machines, sewing machines, a lathe machine, salon kits, motorcycles and a PlayStation gaming kit.
According to MSEA, the equipment will help the youth groups generate income, create employment for their peers, build assets and grow into business leadership within their communities.
Speaking at the forum, MSEA Director Corporate Services Eric Owino, representing Director General Henry Rithaa, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting youth led enterprises through access to machinery, skills development and market opportunities.
He urged the youth to take advantage of government programmes designed to help them achieve economic independence, singling out the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation Project (KJET).

This project builds the capabilities and competitiveness of micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) clusters through training and co investment support along priority value chains.
Youth groups and other clusters were encouraged by Owino to apply for the ongoing Business Development Services (BDS) training call through the KJET portal before the deadline of August 21, 2026.
Part of MSEA’s broader agenda, the forum aims to equip young entrepreneurs with the tools, skills and opportunities needed to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the local economy.
It complements ongoing youth support delivered through the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project’s Business Support Component, which provides start up capital to young entrepreneurs.
MSEA said the initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to unlocking the potential of young people as drivers of enterprise, innovation and national economic transformation.
