Urithi Housing Cooperative Society Limited Chairman and co- founder Samuel Ngugi Maina has said his society is taking a quantum leap in making sure they provide property for all its members.
Speaking at Taji Gardens near Blue Post Hotel in Thika along the Thika – Murang’a Highway recently, Maina said the society was open to ideas, investment and innovation in providing low cost housing to its members.
“We have made commitments to people and ourselves, and for Urithi’s great future. We assure you that we will be available to hold your hands whenever you need us. We intend to extend our presence to Western Kenya where we expect to make the sector more appealing to the common mwananchi, “he said.
The Chairman said they are making the housing Sacco sector more and more attractive, especially in Eastern Kenya and would also take it up in Western Kenya .
He said that what differentiates Urithi from most other cooperatives is that it’s the only one with regular weekend education days and which distributes leases through fractional ownership to its members and has strict adherence to transparent leadership. This is the key and bedrock of the industry.
Maina said Urithi expects to complete most of its 2015 projects by February 2016 when most members would have purchased two to three units each.
The Sacco’s management is emphasizing to its members to live by its new ‘rithisha, rithika, urithike na Urithi’ slogan by taking ownership of properties.
The Society CEO Kevin Muthuri Majau said they plan to grow their base and bring on board 50,000 new members. We are looking at a minimum of 3,500 housing units in Kenya annually which is likely to grow their revenue to Sh20 billion in three years with members who get access to key concepts of own-a-room, Nyumba mia, Urithi Group of Schools, lifestyle homes, hilltop resorts/hotels &cottages. Urithi intends to accelerate further the Nyumba Mia Housing in 2016 by building 100 units every month,” said the CEO.
Urithi, whose biggest goal is to empower members, has quickly diversified into Urithi Conference Centre, Group of Schools and insurance.
