The National Council of Ushirika Day celebrations has written to cooperative movement stakeholders to participate in Ushirika Day Exhibition 2025 International Day of Cooperatives, (Ushirika day) two days exhibitions.
The exhibition will be held on 11th and July 12th July at the KICC grounds.
In a notice dated 16th June 2025, from the Council chairman Macloud Malonza the stakeholders are required to apply to be granted space to display and promote their products and services.
They are required to contact the council before 25th June 2025 for payment and preparations for the celebrations.
Counties will hold their celebrations on 5th July 2025, leading to national celebrations on 12th July, the theme for this years’ cooperatives is “Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World.”
Ushirika Day is celebrated to commemorate the successes of the cooperative movement and promote its principles.
It’s a day for cooperatives worldwide to raise awareness about their activities and their contributions to society.
The 2023 SACCO Supervision Annual Report indicated vibrant and growing SACCO sector that continues to be a key driver in Kenya’s financial landscape.
It indicated that a total of 357 SACCOs were regulated, comprising 176 Deposit-Taking SACCOs and 181 Non-Withdrawable Deposit-Taking SACCOs.
Total assets saw a significant growth of 9.17%, reaching Kshs 971.96 billion, up from Kshs 893.30 billion in 2022.
This growth represented 6.43% of the national nominal GDP, further emphasizing the importance of SACCOs in the Kenyan economy.
Membership numbers also increased, with a 6.57% rise, bringing the total to 6.84 million members, up from 6.42 million in 2022. This reflects the growing trust that Kenyans have in SACCOs as a reliable financial solution.
During the year there was strong surge in deposits , growing by 9.95% from Kshs 620.45 billion to Kshs 682.19 billion in 2023, demonstrating the confidence members place in their SACCOs.
The SACCOs’ loan portfolio expanded as well, with gross loans growing by 11.50%, from Kshs 680.35 billion to Kshs 758.57 billion in 2023, highlighting the increasing demand for credit among members.
