Will Ministry of Cooperatives be merged with another ministry in the upcoming changes?

Cooperative sector stakeholders are now waiting to see if the President Willaim Ruto will keep the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development as standalone ministry or it will be absorbed by other ministries.

This is after President dismissing all members of his Cabinet including Attorney General.

Ruto announced that only Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will remain in office.

The dismissal follows weeks of protests in which more than 30 people were killed.

The President had suspended the Finance Bill and said he will reorganize the government.

Among those fired include Simon Chelegui Cabinet Secretary Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development docket.

Ruto was the first president to create standalone ministry of Cooperative and SMEs with the cooperative sector getting the first Cooperative Principal Secretary.

Chelegui was the only minister Ruto had retained in government; he had been in former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s government as Water and Sanitation Minister.

He remained a loyal supporter of Ruto during Uhuru’s regime with other ministers confronting Ruto in public while drumming support for his opponents.
